The Compton Inn has been running a monthly Charity Quiz for many years and over that time has raised thousands of pounds for many different local charities.
All money from entry fees and a mid-evening raffle are added to the Charity fund. In addition, most winning teams donate their cash prizes back to the charity pot, further boosting the money collected for good causes.
Once the charity fund has accumulated sufficiently it is allocated to charities in accordance with criteria agreed by the teams. This time it was decided to share the money equally amongst three local charities spanning the generations, with each charity receiving £700.
On 20th September a presentation event was held at The Compton Inn where the chosen charities received their cheques. Christine Hall, a long-standing supporter of the charity quiz, said: "We wanted to support local charities that span the age groups. For children, we chose The "Super-Dream" project from the Keynsham and District Mencap Society, which is raising money to take a group of children with learning disabilities to EuroDisney in 2013. For adults, we picked The Thomas More Project, a long established charitable trust which provides support to adults with learning disabilities. For the elderly, we chose The Golden-Oldies, which seeks to promote and sustain independence in the growing elderly UK population through the medium of music."
Paul Thomas, landlord of the pub in Compton Dando, near Keynsham, said: "The quiz has gone from strength to strength, with virtually a full house each month. We are proud to be associated with three such worthy causes and it's good to see that a bit of light-hearted fun for us on a Monday night can make such a difference to other people's lives."
