Broadlands School is trying to trace a unique film that was made in 1960 to mark its silver jubilee celebrations.

The school is currently gearing up to celebrate its 75th anniversary later this year and staff are keen to trace the old film.

A member of staff said: “It was shown during the 50th anniversary reunion but no one knows who has it now and I would be appropriate to show it again this year.”

Sadly as a pupil at the time I was in that film which was made by science teacher Alan Skidmore.

He produced the 20-30 minute colour film depicting scenes from Keynsham’s past and present, ranging from the establishment of Keynsham Abbey and the Roman occupation, to the influx of industry from Bristol.

The project was supervised by the then headmaster Richard Morley.

I recall we all went along to the Roman Baths in Bath one Sunday morning to film a scene that was also featured on the popular BBC Children’s Newsreel programme shown nationwide at 5pm each day.

The Roman Baths scene was also pictured on the front page of the Bath Weekly Chronicle and Herald.

So if anyone can remember who has the film since the last reunion please get in touch with the school.
