Keynsham’s residents, traders, and visitors are being encouraged to shape the long-term future of their community and have their say about Bath & North East Somerset Council’s ideas for supporting a thriving future for the town.
Following an exhibition taking place today at the Key Centre, Charlton Road taking place today (12th August 2010) between 9.30am - 7.30pm, information will be exhibited from 13th August to 18th September at Keynsham Library. An exhibition will also take place at the Key Centre on 8th September between 2.30pm and 7.30pm where Council representatives will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the ideas with local people.
The Council intends to support the creation of new job opportunities by encouraging private sector investment in the town and is also likely to make its own contribution through the redevelopment of the town hall complex and library site to provide significant improvements to public access for Council services, new retail units, new library, and improved public space.
The ideas, developed alongside Keynsham Town Council, cover a wide range of issues, such as how to prepare the main shopping street for future growth, the redevelopment of the town hall complex and library, and how to improve access between the High Street and Memorial Park, amongst many others.
Councillor Terry Gazzard, Cabinet Member for Development and Major Projects, said, “Keynsham has a great deal of potential with two major potential employment sites and a bustling High Street. Bath & North East Somerset Council’s ideas are intended to build upon these assets and develop Keynsham so it has a broader range of businesses. These include our own plans for new Council facilities in Keynsham that will encourage other investors, businesses, and developers to come here. I hope people can give their view.”
Your place, your say – how to get involved
People can express their views about the ideas through questionnaires which can be picked up at all Council offices, public libraries, and online at www.bathnes.gov.uk/keynshamregen
Local residents across the town are backing the Council’s message encouraging people to shape the future of their community.
Chair of the Keynsham Business Association Lynda Young says: “Keynsham already has all the ingredients to be a jewel of a town. The needs of the local people are integral to any future planning. They know their town better than anyone. I would encourage everyone, residents and traders, to have their say.”
Chairman of Keynsham Heritage Trust Dr Peter Roberts welcomes the Council’s positive vision for his hometown. “Redevelopment of the town can re-establish its identity, but it’s very important that locals have their say.”

Too great ana opportunity to miss, so much comment has been made in the past now is the chance for us to be involved in the shaping of our town,It is i feel significant that a display in the library, gives us the opportunity to add to the debate, after all, this is the centre where major changes are proposed. Many people have spoken during a recent by election about how they would like to see the centre altered, and more the town prosper through development. There are many ways to be involved,I would urge people to comment sooner than later.Involvement is very much the key word.
