The latest roadshow promoting the new weekly food recycling collections can be seen in Keynsham tomorrow (29th).

More than 3,000 people have visited the Bath and North East Somerset Council display on the new collections which start from October 4 for every household using the green box recycling scheme. The Council’s waste campaigns team has already visited more than 20 public events and supermarkets with a food waste roadshow and spoken to around 30 community groups.

This work, which gives residents a chance to find out how the new collections will work in practice as well as about the long-term benefits, will continue throughout the summer. Cllr Charles Gerrish, Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Cabinet Member for Service Delivery, (Conservative, Keynsham North), said: “Food waste can make up a third of all our household waste so food recycling is an important way that we can reduce the amount of waste going into landfill and this work to promote the new service to residents is key to its success.

Food waste collections will not only help Bath & North East Somerset Council in its commitment to tackle the causes and effects of climate change, they will also save us money as the amount of landfill tax we pay will be reduced.” Leaflets with more details will be issued in early September and from September 20 two new food waste containers with a start-up supply of compostable caddy liners will be delivered to all households using the green box recycling collection service - a small kitchen caddy and a larger food waste bin to put out for weekly collection. The roadshow will be at the Clock Tower in Keynsham tomorrow (10a.m.-4p.m.) and on Aug 19, and Sept. 21. It will also be outside the Co-op store on Aug 6 and at the Keynsham Market on Sept. 11.
