Trump misses out on Shanghai showdown with Hendry

Keynsham snooker ace Judd Trump has failed to qualify for next month's Roewe Shanghai Masters, the first ranking tournament of the new season.
The world No 30 slipped to a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Scotland's Marcus Campbell in the final qualifying round at the Pontin's Holiday Park in Prestatyn, North Wales, yesterday.
And with that defeat, he missed out on a showdown with Stephen Hendry, the seven-time world champion, when the tournament runs in Shanghai from September 7-13.
"I'm disappointed because I didn't play too badly, but I didn't take my chances when it really mattered," reflected Trump.
"I had a couple of decent breaks, but I didn't play anywhere near as well as I can do. I felt good going into the match, but he (Campbell) fed off my mistakes."
Campbell won the opening frame with a break of 52, but Trump quickly responded with a run of 50 to level matters.
But Campbell won the next two frames with breaks of 41 and 79 for a 3-1 interval lead, which the Dumbarton player extended after the break to lead 4-1.
Trump hit back with runs of 47 and 105, but Campbell held his nerve to win a scrappy seventh and deciding frame to take the match.
"It would have been great to play Stephen (Hendry) in Shanghai, but I'm just disappointed I lost the match and won't be competing at the tournament," added Trump, a semi-finalist at last season's Grand Prix.
"It's still early days, but I want to continue pushing up the rankings this season and, to do that, I've got to be competing at as many ranking tournaments as I can."
