THE smash and grab raider of a Keynsham jewellery store has been remanded in custody after admitting the robbery.

Luke Lane, aged 28, of Mangotsfield, Bristol, pleaded to raiding Manning’s Jewellers on Bath Hill when he appeared before Bath Magistrates Court.

Lane smashed the front window of the shop in broad daylight and seized a tray of ring from the display before running off down Bath Hill.

The tray contained 12 individual rings which were 9ct gold rings with diamond stones. Some were solitaires and some had three stones.

Lane has been remanded in custody to appear before Bristol Crown Court for sentence next month.

Meanwhile also at Bath Magistrates Court a Keynsham man received a suspended prison sentence for a series of motoring offences.

Daniel Cashman, aged 35, of VandykeAvenue, was given a 20-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, an electronic tag and disqualified from driving for three years for driving while disqualified, driving while above the legal alcohol limit and driving without insurance.

In another magistrates court case Lance San-Jacques, aged 24, of Brockley Road, Saltford, was fined £175 for failing to send registration documents to the secretary of state.

Magistrates also fined Dion West, aged 24, of Tintagel Close, Keynsham, £160 and disqualified him from driving for 18 months for driving above the legal alcohol limit.
