Secondary school consultation begins

Parents, teachers and pupils will have a chance to have their say on proposals outlined in Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Secondary Review when consultation begins on 31 March 2010.
The proposed changes affect schools in Bath and Keynsham. While standards in our schools are good, the main reason for the changes is to further raise standards and to make sure that all our young people get the best possible secondary education.
In Keynsham, we need to make sure money is spent more effectively and not on repairs to old school buildings or surplus school spaces. In addition, in Bath, there is the need to increase the number of co-educational places, whilst still giving parents the choice to send their children to single sex or church school.
Consultation booklets which give details of the proposals are being distributed to schools in Bath and Keynsham before schools break up for Easter.

Comments
You will notice that the official council story does not even have the good grace to mention Broadlands School by name.
It may be a "consultation" period but I fear the decision has already been made.
It talks about raising standards but will lumping every student into a bigger school instead of keeping two smaller ones be a guarantee of success?
By saying the aim is to spend money more wisely what that means it the money saved in Keynsham can be spent on the proposed new schools in Bath.
