While many people are heading south for their holidays we are off to sunny Scarborough in Yorkshire.

Why Yorkshire you may ask although some see it as “God’s Own Country. We are taking time out to visit the county while attending a family wedding at Ripley Castle near Harrogate where we will stay for a few days before heading for the Yorkshire Dales, the coast and Scarborough.

I had only ever heard of the resort when it came to Yorkshire cricket or Labour Party conferences but apparently it has a lot more to offer as we hope to discover.

Many of my friends are heading south to Devon and Cornwall where caravan and camping holidays seem to be popular this year, maybe because of the good weather we have been experiencing lately. Another reason could be the poor exchange of the pound sterling against the Euro which is nearly £1 for 1 Euro.

A friend who recently went to Portugal says it can still cost 100 Euros for a good meal for two with a bottle of wine. But now that equates to £100 instead of £50 18 months ago.

But travel agents in Keynsham are offering late deals for this summer and even offering bargain prices to book now for next summer. At Thomas Cook, in The Centre, you can get last minute deals from £214 to Ibiza, Turkey £267 and clubbing holidays from £241. Meanwhile at First Choice in High Street, there are last minute deals to be had from as little as £180 (saving £124) to Majorca from Gatwick for four people sharing.
