A police chief is calling for urgent action to combat the problem of young people drinking too much.

Chief Supt Gary Davies who is responsible for Bath and North East Somerset says he is” fed up with people drinking themselves into oblivion, urinating in doorways and vomiting in the streets.

“We can’t continue to tolerate this level of anti-social behaviour. This is going beyond binge drinking. It is drinking to a point where you don’t know what you’re doing.

“This is young people generally, regardless of their background. It is not acceptable and we cannot continue to tolerate it.”

Mr Davies’ comments come as the Health and Wellbeing Partnership, comprising of B&NES and the NHS, has launched a new strategy to get local people with drug and alcohol problems involved in their treatment and back on the road to recovery.

The new scheme works by involving people and their families in developing treatment for example by taking part in planning, delivery and evaluation of services.

Evidence shows that outcomes are better when clients and their families are fully involved in the development of their treatment.

If your fed up with it Mr Davies, then what do you think the residents of BANES are feeling like. Here are some suggestions. Get your officers out on the streets to combat this. This problem does not go away if most of your officers are sat in front of computer screens in the depths of your police stations for a majority of the day writing their personal development diaries on how good they think they are doing. Another good idea is to have a word with your bombastic boss Mr Port. He recruited all these PCSOs who may look very pretty and hoodwink the public, but in the world of law enforcement are totally useless. We dont hear from Mr. Port that the central government funding for the wages of these people has come to an end after two years. Who is now paying the wages of these people. We are, the ratepayers. I would love to have a job for £20,000 a year to wander round in pairs chatting and producing nothing. I dont see the PCSOs on the streets after dark tackling the drunken hordes. Its time to amend the terms of reference of what the police are here to do. Law enforcement, not social work!
