The Treasure Island Pre School, which meets at Elim Church in Balmoral Road, had A Keynsham pre-school could be saved from closure thanks to a positive report from school inspectors.

looked set to close at the end of February after its funding had been frozen following a poor Ofsted inspection last year.

A last-ditch meeting with B&NES Council was called off last week after Ofsted inspectors returned to check on the progress that had been made and are believed to have ruled they were satisfied with what they have recently seen.

B&NES Councillor Alan Hale, who took up the pre-school cause, said: “Knowing that the leaders at the school have worked extremely hard to address the concerns raised by the first inspection, they are hopeful that a positive way forward will be announced by Ofsted.

“Council officers acted promptly and correctly when Ofsted raised concerns and the school leaders acted responsibly in accepting that had to happen. What it also shows is that the school has dedicated leaders and staff who have worked extremely hard with guidance from officers and hopefully with a positive outcome.”

A council spokesman said: “The council will now await the formal notification of the new Ofsted rating, and if the rating has improved the council’s Early Years Entitlement will be unfrozen in line with the local code of practice.”
