Keynsham War Dead Of The Great War

For a number of years whilst attending the Remembrance Ceremony at the war memorial at Keynsham I would look at the eighty names of the men of Keynsham and Saltford who gave their lives for this country in the Great War 1914-1918. I would stand and wonder where they were laid to rest or commemorated on the battlefields of France and Flanders.

My interest in the Great War has grown over the years and whilst taking friends to tour the battlefields of Belgium and France, have now made it my business to locate and pay tribute to our local fallen heros. I visit both countries once a year and have now taken it upon myself to place a remembrance cross on each grave I locate with a message giving thanks to their sacrifice on behalf of the residents of Keynsham. I have now visited a number of graves and placed tributes on each but still have more to visit. I have taken photographs of the graves of the servicemen who were recovered from the battlefield, and photographs of the names of those on the Memorials to the Missing who were lost, never to be found, and have no resting place.

In time I would like to post photographs of the resting places of our fallen on the Keynsham People Gallery and link them to the Tributes and Obituaries Group page.

If any reader has knowledge about any of these men or can put me in touch with relatives I would like to pass on a photograph to them and hopefully obtain a copy of a photograph of that person and obtain some information about them.

I can be contacted on this medium.

The Gallery is now well underway. I was only going to put photographs of the war dead I  have personally visited but with second thoughts I will now list all the names that are on the war memorial and place a photograph of the cemetery they rest in. As you will see our Keynsham War Dead are scattered all over the world. With information from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and research disc "Soldiers that Died 1914-1918" each photograph will have a caption with information attached from those two sources. Out of the eighty names on the war memorial fo the Great War I have positively identified 56 men, found 16 possibles and there are 8 men who cannot be found on record at present.
Click on the photograph from the slideshow and then place your cursor over the enlarged photograph to display information known about each man. For the men who cannot be found on records at present a general photograph will be displayed and caption will read 'No record found'
