Keynsham Childrens Centre Funding Cuts
By minniemaid | Wednesday, September 15, 2010, 22:14
Keynsham Childrens Centre enables families to access all kinds of support services. I myself have been provided with financial advice, practical support with my children and emotional support through difficult times. The staff there really listen to and understand families struggles so they are able to offer targeted and very much needed support. This has been invaluble to me and my children and many other families alike. It will be a devastating loss to families with young children in Keynsham to have funding for the Childrens Centre slashed.

After reading around on the internet the general feeling is that the children centres aka surestart centres are set to close. If they do then I think it would be a massive blow for communities as well as a waste of funds that have already been pumped into them.
I fully agree that spending needs to be cut but I can’t help but feel that the people that need the help most will not get it and in fact will get even less.
This was all obvious months ago!!

ReportI think the new governments ideas for childrens centres are clear as we see plans for new childrens centres being cancelled - some even ceasing mid build. I just wish that they wouldn't underestimate the value of the work done within Childrens Centres for all families.
The work done at Keynsham Childrens Centre goes far beyond anything that can be evaluated or assessed. It provides a welcome environment with staff that are easily able to build trusting relationships with parents and give us confidence to discuss and address any parenting issues that we may be struggling with at an early stage. The staff are very successful at recognising where extra support is needed and making sure that it is provided. It is also a place that makes it possible for new people to the area to integrate and for parents from all backgrounds and in a variety of circumstances to support eachother.
I think it's important for the government to remember that ALL parents may need support at some time. ANY parent can have trouble coping or suffer from depression or feel isolated. Without the opportunities at the Childrens Centre many of these families would not share these problems making them more likely to be left unaddressed. The services offered at Keynsham Childrens Centre for families are vital to the community and our impressionable next generation!

ReportTo set the the record straight:
There are no planned cuts to Children's Centres this financial year - although until the Government Comprehensive Spending Review is announced on 20th October 2010, no local authority will know what is to happen to Children's Centre funding across the country in the future.
