Visitors to this weekend’s Bristol Harbour Festival

can look forward to massages, relaxation workshops, healthy food demonstrations

and tastings as part of Penny Brohn Cancer Care’s range of fundraising

activities taking place during the free, annual event.

The Bristol-based organisation is the first-ever

charity partner to be chosen by the Festival and hopes to raise thousands of

pounds at the event, which attracts more than a quarter of a million people to

the city’s waterfront each summer.

A 100-strong team of general volunteers will be

collecting money for the charity over the Festival weekend and people are also

invited to go along to the Penny

Brohn Therapy

Village and find out more

about the charity’s work and the range of free services it provides for people

living with cancer and their families.

Situated near the Amphitheatre, the Therapy Village will give visitors the chance to

take time out from the bustle of the waterfront and enjoy a calm, relaxing

interlude. Free taster sessions in complementary treatments such as Indian head

massage and reflexology are on offer, as well as relaxation workshops teaching

stress busting techniques and a selection of books, relaxation CDs and organic

bodycare products are available to buy from the charity’s market stall.

Penny Brohn Cancer Care will also be bringing its

own organic FoodFest to the event. Chefs from the Centre will provide mouth-watering

meal demonstrations, serve up tasty treats and offer information and advice on

nutrition, with the new Penny Brohn Cancer Care recipe booklet on sale to

encourage healthy eating.

Emily Waller, Corporate and Community Manager at

Penny Brohn Cancer Care, explained: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the

charity to share the work we do with thousands of Harbour Festival visitors and

at the same time raise thousands of pounds to help people in the area living with

cancer.

“As the first year in our two-year partnership with the

Harbour Festival, we want to make it a huge success and hope that lots of

people will join in the fun activities we have organised.”
