Bristol’s best known independent furniture store is looking to expand into other parts of the region after establishing a warehouse distribution centre for the first time.

Park Furnishers in Willway Street, Bedminster, which has roots in the city back to 1967, have moved their warehousing and storage function into a 52,000 square feet warehouse at Second Way, Avonmouth.

Jonathan Allen of joint agents Colliers International, who completed the deal, said: “This distribution unit now enables Park Furnishers to go ahead with some ambitious expansion plans.

“The site was strategically chosen so that it can serve the whole region as well the existing store in Bedminster. Being close to junction 18 of the M5 was a key factor in the move and Park Furnishers have already fitted out the new warehouse and moved stock into it.”

Tim Coller, Managing Director of Park Furnishers, explained; “Until now we had 75,000 square feet of showroom and 35,000 square feet of storage behind the scenes at Willway Street.

“Moving the storage to Avonmouth means we are now beginning work on expanding the store at Willway Street so that we can introduce new lines for our customers, including cookware and accessories.

“For the first time we are also looking around the region for suitable sites to open other Park Furnishers stores. We expect to have the enlarged Bedminster store open by December and we will be able to announce other stores when suitable sites are found.”

Park Furnishers is a local family business started by greengrocer Len Coller, who began selling tables as a sideline from his shop in Sandy Park Road. Furniture soon became the major business and in 1977 the store in Willway Street was opened and has been a favourite with Bristol families ever since.

The business is now run by Len Coller’s grandchildren.

The property was sold by joint agents Colliers International and King Sturge for a private company.
