A new after school Maths Club is
-
Maths@67 - Maths games and fun and homework help. Weds 4-5pm in term time at Community@67, 67 Queen's Road, Keynsham
being launched for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at the Community@67 community
centre at 67 Queens Road, Keynsham.
Starting 13th
June, Maths@67 will run every Wednesday afternoon in term time from 4-5pm for
Year 5 and 6 pupils from any of the primary schools in Keynsham and surrounding
areas. Castle, St John's and St Keyna have expressed
their enthusiasm for the project as a complement to their lessons. Children
can bring their maths homework and work through it under supervision with help
given when needed or just join in the fun maths activities on offer. The venue
is only able to take 12 – 15 young people, so if you are interested please get
in touch. Squash and biscuits will be provided during the break.
The club is
being run by Sheila Crocombe, an experienced maths teacher. She explains, "I
wanted to start the club to help local children to improve their confidence in
maths. Many children are able to achieve much more than they think once they
have a little extra help and they might even find that learning maths can be
fun."
Community@67
aims to run projects at the centre which benefit the local community.
Clare
Hudson, Chair of Community@67, says, "Community@67 and Maths@67 are run
entirely by volunteers. Whilst there are private tutoring options for maths
available in the area, the cost of the sessions puts them out of the reach of
many. Maths@67 will provide an affordable option and is very convenient as we
are based close to three of Keynsham's primary schools. There is a suggested
donation of £1 per child per session towards the running costs of the centre
but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds."
