St George's Bristol, 7:30pm
Bristol Concert Orchestra (leader Andrew Rees)
Ashley Wass (piano)
Stefan Hofkes (conductor)
Bernstein: Candide Overture
Gershwin Piano Concerto
Dvorak: Symphony No.9 'from the New World'
The overture to Leonard Bernstein's Candide provides the very lively opener for this American-themed spring concert, to be followed by the equally lively yet bluesy Piano Concerto by George Gershwin, for which the orchestra is delighted to be joined once again by the superbly talented Ashley Wass.
Dvorak's New World Symphony hardly needs introduction; it is a deserved perennial favourite of the romantic repertoire. Think not of TV ads for bread - but of forests, rivers, waterfalls, Native American dances and yearnings for Bohemia!
There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Tickets £15, £13, £10, £8 (concessions £2 discount), children £1 are available online from http://tinyurl.com/7xur9u5 or from St George's Bristol in person, by phone: 0845 40 24 001 or online:
