Hopefully now that we're in the middle of a massive recession these houses will be quietly forgotten about

I can't see where they'll get the money from to develop them at the moment.  There was a developer on TV the other day saying that back in the 'good old days' of easy credit, before the credit crunch arrived, they only had to have about 15% of the estimated total cost of the build because the rest would be bank-rolled without a problem.  Does anyone else think that's ridiculous? No wonder the banks got into trouble if they were prepared to lend 85% of the costs of big builds like that! The banks are now demanding that the developers put up at least 50% of the cost up front, and they were moaning that they can't afford it...

I wasn't aware they were planning to build there, not impressed either! Is any one setting up a group to fight the development?  Is it definitely going to happen or is the council just floating the idea to see how much resistance there is?
Tony - in some ways this recession has been a good thing, obviously not for the poor people who have lost their jobs and sometimes their houses, but society was spending way too much money that often they didn't actually have, it was all on credit cards or massive overdrafts.  The question is, once the recession is over, will any one have learnt from what's happened or will it just go mad again?

the council came and spoke to the residents, but the ppl they sent were from Cardiff and didn't give a dame about the area, or know anyhting about it. there are details of this in www.thisisbristol.co.uk so have alook

the best bit was they didn't know there are 14 natural spings in the area, and had nothing designed to cover this. shocking don't you think??

That is shocking!! You'd think that if they were going to spend millions building houses all over the area, they'd have a good look first to see what's already there and what problems there might be!!
I had a look on thisisbristol but the only stuff I could find is about the South West Regional Spatial Strategy - was that where the Cardiff poeple were from? They seem to be planning to build over a lot of the green belt south of the Bath and Bristol areas...
