It's sad, but when you buy a home you take responsibility for checking that it's sound yourself. If I buy a house and it falls down the week I move in I might sue my surveyor, but I haven't got a leg to stand on with the previous owner. Surprised if it's much different with boats.

I'd have to agree with that - though I wonder whether it's the same as with cars, when there aren't surveyors.
