KEYNSHAM TOWN CENTRE REDEVELOPMENT

The planning application for the redevelopment of Keynsham Town Centre has recently been made (Reference:12/00972/REG04). In my view, the design of the proposed buildings is totally out of keeping with Keynsham as an "Historic Market Town". The Legoland style blocks of concrete and glass are just as drab and soulless as the buildings they are meant to replace; Keynsham deserves better than this. If Bath's shopping centre can be redeveloped sensitively why can't Keynsham's? The Council must refuse planning permission and tell the developers to come up with a revised proposal which will make Keynsham a more, not less, attractive place to live and shop. If you feel the same let BANES Council know and comment on the application.

I couldn't agree more - the new town hall is hideous and totally out of keeping with the rest of Keynsham. I did the virtual tour of the site and building on the council's website and can see it becoming the same eyesore the current building has become. There are also obvious spots that will become no-go areas at night.

Why can't we have a building that is sympathetic to the history of the town that it's in and the architecture around it? We already have enough 1970s eyesores in the High Street without adding any 21st century ones to it!

To see the virtual flythrough of Keynsham town centre, visit http://tinyurl.com/7m2ytxl

It's an animated journey through and into the new development and gives you a very good idea of what it will look like.

Well having taken the flying tour I think it looks a damm site better than what we've got now!. As for being in keeping with Keynsham's historic market town image, And sympathetic to its surroundings/architecture what do you have in mind?. Disguise it a giant charity shop or maybe a bank?. With hardly any historic market town left, surely destroying that 1960's monstrosity and injecting some style, class and sophistication in to the town is the kind of thing we NEED to attract new business's and retailers and give existing ones a boost!. Don't get me wrong im all for saving building that need saving, but I fail to see how it has any impact in that part of the street. No go areas at night? really? any worse than we have now?.
