A big thank you

On Monday evening of June 18 in the Guildhall I was made a honorary alderman of Bath and North East Somerset Council.
I felt a little bit humble having my name read out along with some councillors I have worked with and known for years. Councillors like Les Sell, Adrian Inker, Sheila Bateman and Julie Stiddard from Keynsham also Peter Metcalfe, David Hawkins and Matt Davies from Bath. I would also like to recognise serving councillors like Roger Symonds, Brian Organ, Malcolm Hanney and Paul Crossley. All these people and many more are responsible for me receiving this award.

Honorary Alderman ? Since when ? Do they get an increased tax free allowance or is it more self - importance ?
