Police are training dogs at the Somerdale factory in Keynsham to help keep vandals and metal thieves away.

The old Cadbury factory at Somerdale, Keynsham
The plant, which shut in March, has been targeted six times by criminals whose images were caught on CCTV cameras.
Police dogs will now be trained on site, day and night, while Kraft works to beef up security at the site.
Keynsham district inspector Tim Stuckes said: "Police and the owners Kraft are fully aware how potentially attractive such a large and empty factory may appear to criminals.
"I can assure them that on-site security is already extremely vigilant and we are fully prepared to respond rapidly to any reports of criminal activity.
"We are in regular talks with the company over the site's security measures, which can be increased if considered necessary.
"Our message is that Cadbury's is not a chocolate box of goodies that scrap metal thieves can help themselves to."

It will probably be sold for development, more flats, isn't that what always happens?

ReportI do hope someone comes along and buys Somerdale soon and turns it into something that benefits Keynsham. We had a hell of a lot to put up with during the whole Kraft saga so I think this story deserves a happy ending.

ReportThe policeman says they already have on-site security. It might be convenient for them to train their dogs there in which case fair enough. But security at Somerdale shouldn't be costing the people of Keynsham a penny. Kraft treated us really badly and it would be showing even more contempt for us than they already have donee.

ReportIt's going to become a right eyesore if they're not careful. Hopefully the police are using it as a convenient place to train their dogs and save us money, it would be rubbing salt in the wound if local money is going towards security for the place.

ReportAnd the reason why a multi-million dollar company can't pay for its own security and has to scrouge off the police who should be looking after the people who actually live here is what exactly?
