Pet and plant shop disappears from Keynsham town centre

Sadly, Keynsham Pet and Garden has closed down - there are no signs in the window as to where they've gone or what's happened.

I popped into Roger Spooner's and asked if they knew anything about it. They said they've had loads of people coming in asking what had happened to the shop. Apparently it was still trading on a Friday, but by the end of the weekend it had been emptied and closed.
There was speculation that they may have been seen off by the supermarket, the lack of parking and that people didn't want to have to lug heavy tins of pet food back to their cars. Their website has been taken down too.
Whatever the reason, it's a shame to see Keynsham Pet and Garden disappear, it was a great shop with friendly staff. I remember them telling me once that they only stocked British grown plants, which was admirable.
However, on the plus side, I saw workmen drilling and sawing away in the old Wine Rack. No signs on the window as to what shop will be opening there, but it will be good to see another shop opening.
Oh, and the new Polkadot card shop is doing very well. I stopped by yesterday and staff said it's proved a very popular addition to Keynsham High Street.

The white shed has come down and the new Coventry Building Society will be opening tomorrow (Monday, October 24).
As a friend of mine said: "It looks really smart - like a coffee shop."
It's nice to see an open shop in that part of the High Street again.

ReportApparently Poundland did have Keynsham on its list of shop locations, but then, according to a Poundlands spokesman, it disappeared off the list. It may yet reappear, we'll just have to wait and see.
It would be good to have something in there.

ReportA white shed-like cover has appeared over Wine Rack - I've added a picture of it on to this story.
I tried to have a look through the door - it was very dark in there, but from what I could see, they've removed the old frontage of the shop. I think it's a shame - there was nothing that a bit of sandpaper and some paint couldn't have solved and they could have installed security glass into the existing frames.
We'll just have to wait and see what it looks like when they're done.

ReportCould be worse I suppose, like a pawn shop! But building society shops don't add much to a high street.
