Keynsham's newest restaurant will be opening its doors to the public tonight.

The opening night at Farrells in Temple Street promises to be busy, but if you ring up and ask nicely, they might just be able to squeeze you in.

The restaurant serves Irish/Italian fusion food, inspired by owner Barry Farrell's Irish/Italian childhood.

And to reflect this, one of Bristol's most famous graffiti artists Tom Bingle, aka Inkie, spent two days working on an image on the wall of an Irish woman and an Italian woman holding a glass of wine.

Mr Bingle, who is acknowledged to be Banksy's partner in crime, said: "I'm an old friend of Barry Farrell, so he invited me down to the restaurant.

"These days I do work all over the world, so it's really nice to do some work back here in the Bristol area."

The restaurant held a grand opening on Sunday, and chief waiter Eduard Paloka said it was a great success.

"It was absolutely brilliant," he said. "We had the biggest and best people from the Bristol catering industry here and they were very impressed. They loved the restaurant and the food."

Wow! Would it have been so difficult to push a couple of tables together?

I went to Farrells for lunch recently. The food was very nice - when it finally arrived. It took 40 minutes for our orders to be taken. When we asked for the bill, it took 20 minutes between asking and finally being able to leave.

Farrells - you really need to look at the speed at which you serve your customers. When people come in to the restaurant they are hungry and want to eat. When they ask for the bill, it means they want to go. No one has the time or inclination to sit around and wait for an hour.

    Only tables for two!

My family of 4 (2 adults & 2 kids) thought it would be nice to try out Farrells for Sunday lunch on 10th July. Despite being virtually empty we were told that they only had tables for 2 and turned us away. Well, they have lost our custom forever!

I hope these are just teething problems. I expect to be going to Farrells soon, but I and I'm sure no other customer will put up with waiting hours for their food to arrive. It looks very nice from the outside and this is just the kind of eatery that Keynsham needs. Keeping my fingers crossed that it's a success.
