Labour candidate David Biddleston has been elected as the new town councillor for Keynsham South.
Turnout in in yesterday's by-election was low, at just 19 per cent.
The by-election was called following the resignation of Conservative councillor Andrew Hickling.
Mr Biddleston won 298 votes, with the Tory candidate Carole-Anne Duckett in second place with 243 votes. The Lib Democrat candidate Andy Halliday was third, polling 213 votes.
There are now eight Conservative councillors on the town council, four Labour members, two Lib Dems and one member representing the British National Party.

In the meantime, despite Andy's efforts, David Biddleston (who?) has been elected to serve Keynsham South Ward. I say "who" because until the day before the election, when a flyer dropped through my letterbox, i had never heard of the man. The same can be said of Tory candidate Carole -Ann Duckett. I've not come across their names in the local press before? I know it's rather cold at the moment so prehaps they have just awoken from their winter slumber? I would be interested to know just what either has achieved locally?

ReportDespite best efforts with leaflets, knocking on doors, promting the local issues I thought interested people like-preserving Abbots wood, fighting for more free parking, pushing for money for redevelopment of our high street, and long battle to see improved buses on day time routes to help especially those with mobility issues. As well as living in the ward itself, which I have previously served for 8 years on the Town Council-and supporting local groups ,preserving the seperate identity of Keynsham , etc I still came third. This has made me resolve to work even hardere to er regain aplace on our local council.I have a number of campaigns already on going, and feel it wrong to just drop them, be assured I am here to fight for our area.

ReportI'm afraid Honestguv it's that kind of apathy that keeps this country in the mess that it's in. Democracy is one thing, but not being bothered to get of your backside and use your democratic vote is nothing short of criminal. Voting should be a legal requirement, like paying your taxes.

ReportAs commited to all things local and a voice against K2 in particular, i'm afraid Andy Halliday has paid the price of people's dislike of BANES Liberal run council and it's disregard for the people of Keynsham affecting all things that impact on our lives, the Civic Centre rebuild in particular. Within the bigger picture many Liberals feel betrayed at Westminster by Nick Clegg and have good reason to feel so. I'm sure Andy will continue to fight for the good of Keynsham as he has always done. In the meantime David Biddleston must prove himself to be the voice that puts Keynsham first reguardless of party politics I will always support anyone who fights to better our town whatever the colour of their rosette!

ReportAndy Halliday, who contested the Keynsham South for the Lib Dems in the by-election this week, has thanked his supporters.
Mr Halliday emailed Keynsham People to say: "I am writing to thank all the people who cast their vote in support of myself in the recent by-election.
"Although not successful, I would like to reassure them, and other residents and my neighbours in Keynsham South, that I remain committed to continue the campaigns I identified in my pre-election visits, and in our literature.
"I am appreciative of the kind messages received prior to the day, and words of support offered directly at the polling station."
