Radical plans to turn Keynsham High Street into a one-way system are being proposed as part of the town's £34m regeneration.

Residents are being asked for their views on the plans at an exhibition in the Old Peacocks store in Temple Street on Tuesday, February 14 between 12.30pm and 7pm.

Presentations will be held at 1pm, 3pm, and 6pm where computerised models of the proposed changes will be shown. The results of BNES Council's traffic surveys will also be on display.

Councillor Roger Symonds (Lib-Dem, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Transport, said, "Getting the highways aspect of this project right is absolutely crucial to the long-term success of regenerating Keynsham town centre.

"Bath & North East Somerset Council has listened to the views of local people in autumn 2011 in response to a range of highways options we put forward that could accommodate the proposed regeneration.

"Having tested the options we are proposing a one-way system south bound on the High Street/two-way on Ashton Way and we want local people to fully understand the impact this proposal would have on the town centre."

A planning application is due to be submitted for regeneration of Keynsham Town Centre and a further exhibition of the overall proposals will be held in the spring.

The latest information about the project, including a fly-through of the proposed development, can be found at www.bathnes.gov.uk/keynshamregen

This sounds like a very good idea. Something has to be done to regenerate this great town.
