The new £14m custody and crime investigation centre being built in Keynsham is taking shape.

A giant crane is currently dominating the skyline as work progresses on Avon & Somerset police's new operations centre on the Ashmead Road Industrial Estate.

It will have 48 cells and replace existing custody provision in Bath and Bristol. There are no plans to include an inquiry office on the site.

Miller is the main contractor working on the centre, which is expected to be ready by next spring.

The project is part of a wider scheme to provide similar facilities in Patchway and Bridgwater and a police training centre near Portishead.
