Bristol's PG Group Unveils Broadmead Regeneration Project

A major new regeneration project for the heart of Broadmead has been announced by Bristol's PG Group.

The company has acquired an old boarded up building in New Street which began its life as a Quaker home for city weavers back in the 17th century and was previously owned by Bristol City Council.

Stuart Gaiger, Development Director of the award winning group which specialises in the regeneration of brown field sites around the city, said the New Street building had been derelict for years but would now be transformed.

"We are starting work on the £2.5 million project next month (March) and plan to have 17 new apartments ready for occupation by the autumn," he said.

"The building is between the existing Broadmead shops and the new Cabot Circus and its restoration will mark a further enhancement of the area," said Mr Gaiger.

Mayor George Ferguson said: "It is good news that work is starting on this development, regenerating this unique building to provide new homes in the city centre. I would hope to see more schemes like this, helping the city's economy and creating vital new housing."

Bristol Council Heritage Champion Cllr Arthur Negus said he looked forward to seeing the delivery of a scheme which included affordable housing in a conserved listed building

"This will achieve Bristol's major objectives of sensitive regeneration of our valued Heritage buildings and creating new homes," he said.

PG recently announced the successful sale of the first 52 of its apartments at The Eye, an iconic waterside tower development on another former brown field site close to Temple Meads.
